How to Prevent Your Cell Phones From Being Stolen

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Yesterday afternoon, I received an e-mail from one of my female students. In the mail, she said that she had her cell phone stolen, she lost my cell phone number and required me to send a short message to tell her my cell phone number.

In fact, this was not the first time for me to hear such messages. As for me, I have used 8 cell phones, including my present two cell phones. However, I have never lost any of them. The reason why I stopped using the previous 6 was that I did not like them or there were problems with them.

Then how to prevent cell phones from being stolen or losing? Now, I will give you the following advices:

First, do not put your cell phone on the table or desk when you have dinner, read books, bargain and etc. with strangers around or in public places. If you do so, you may forget to pick it up when you leave or others may take your cell phone away when you take no notice of it. The above-mentioned girl told me someone had taken away her cell phone when she was reading a book in the library.Once, a friend told me, he lost his phone because he put it on a restaurant table and forgot to take it away. When he went back to the restaurant, it was not there.

Second, do not put your cell phone in the pocket of your overcoat. Usually, you can not feel whether your cell phone is still there. Then when the thief takes it away gently, you can not feel it. When I go out without a bag, I usually put my phone into the pocket of my trousers and make sure that it will not slide out easily and I can feel its existence all the time when I am out.

Third, remember to put your cell phone into the pocket inside your bag and make sure to tighten the zip. At the same time, keep your bag close to your body, especially in crowded buses. I am sure many people lose their cell phones in buses.

Fourth, do not lend your cell phone to make calls in buses or other places where the borrower may run out of your vision quickly. We’ve heard that in the bus some one required to borrow the other’s phone, but when the bus stopped, he ran away quickly.

In one word, as soon as you leave your house, you should keep alert all the time to make sure the existence of your cell phone. Then, you will never lose it!

Image that you come back home deep in the night and suddenly find that your bag has been stained. No matter how insignificant or small the stain is, you really feel uncomfortable at the sight of it, especially when it is obviously seen. The bag cannot be taken out in the public any more, but you are in great need of it next early morning. What would you do? The best way to solve this problem is to put your spare bag into use! Different clothes need different bags. Has it happened that one morning when you stand in front of the mirror, you feel that everything goes well except your bag? Tourbillion Watch, the Noble One

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Complex machines never fail to fascinate men. An expensive wristwatch is regarded as a symbol of high status all the time. Tourbillions, with its exquisite virtuosity and its mystery engineering, are considered to be the king of mechanical watches.

Tourbillion is a French word which means whirlwind. In horology, it is a special accessory which is added to the mechanics of a watch escapement in order to improve the watch’s accuracy.

At the end of the seventeen century, there was a remarkable raise of people’s expectancy to the accuracy of watches. “Time gap” became unacceptable. The French-Swiss watchmaker,  Abraham-Louis Breguet, spend a lot of time to find the solution. Finally, he found a fantastical means and successfully improved the accuracy. It is so-call tourbillion.

We all know that there must be a power source to provide energy for the familiar “tick-tock” of a watch. Generally, a coiled spring is used as the power source in mechanical watches. Another important component is called escapement, which is designed to slow and regulate the power of the coiled spring and to keep the watch accurate. So, it is easy to understand that a watch’s accuracy mainly depends on the escapement. But gravity often makes the escapement less accurate. You may find out that stationary mechanical clocks are more accurate than watches. The reason is the different effect of gravity when watch is held in different positions. For most of the day, they are working in a vertical position around people’s wrist. At night, however, they are placed on a table. The position is level. In a tourbillion, the escapement is not stationary to the watch. Instead it rotates! This feature compensates for all negative gravitational effects, especially when changing position frequently. So tourbillions negate the effect of gravity, which are more accurate than other mechanical watches.

Watch designer usually expose the tourbillion mechanism on the watch’s face in order to show its charm and mystery.

The Importance and Significance of Wearing Jewelry

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

You may want to know why people wear jewelry and what the importance of wearing jewelry is. People call them jewelry through the centuries for various reasons. Identification is one of the main reasons but it is a lot (more than letting some stranger know what your name is). Jewelry is an item of personal adornment, such as a necklace, ring, brooch or bracelet, which is worn by an individual. It is usually made from some form of precious metals, but may be from any other material, and may be appreciated because of symbolic, artistic or other patterns.

Through the history the jewelry, jewelry in its basic form has been around as long as man, with evidence showing that early humans have been around for approximately 6 or 7 million years, which is based on the recent discovery of a skull found in Central Africa. Early examples of jewelry were made from teeth, bones, stone and wood. The jewelry was of a functional nature and was probably used to fasten clothing. It was later on that it began to be used for esthetic purposes. So now it is one of the reasons why people wear jewelry.

Probably the things that come to mind when thinking about why people wear jewelry are linked with wealth. Jewelry has been the principal means of financial wealth display in many cultures. But even today, jewelry may be used in wedding dowries and rituals, either symbolically or actually as a form of wealth. Jewelry has also been used as a currency to trade goods. But it’s not all about money. There are many items of jewelry, such as brooches, pins and buckles originated as purely functional items.

So Jewelry gradually becomes the practice of many people to purchase it simply to match, accessorize and a particular clothing outfit. Nowadays, it is almost rare to see someone dressed without jewelry of some kind. And being designed and made may add only to its value.
